The Lake Travis Independent School District serves the growing area of Lake Travis, located approximately 20 miles west of Austin, Texas. Originally a component of the Dripping Springs ISD, Lake Travis ISD was formed on June 12, 1981. At that time, 541 students were enrolled in grades K - 12. Since then, the enrollment of the LTISD has increased to more than 5,500 students and facilities to include:
Serene Hills Elementary School is located at 3301 Serene Hills Drive. It is the districts fifth and newest elementary school. The school is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in time for the 2008-2009 school year. This school will be within close walking distance from the Madrone Canyon Estates.
The Lake Travis High School is located at 3322 RR 620 S and is part of the Lake Travis School District. Approximately 1600 student attend for grades 9-12 and the average Student Teacher ratio is 20.
There are more than 180 course selections at Lake Travis and more than 50 student clubs and organizations. In addition, a strong athletic program offers participation in 17 competitive sports. Students also have the opportunity to participate in band, drill team, color guard, cheerleading, choir, orchestra, debate, theater and UIL academic activities
The Hudson Bend Middle School is located at 15600 Lariat Trail and is part of the Lake Travis School District. Approximately 530 students attend this school which consists of grades 6-8.
Hudson Bend Middle School (HBMS) is rated Recognized by the Texas Education Agency. HBMS offers the core academic classes of mathematics, science, language arts, reading and social studies to more than 535 students. Accelerated and gifted and talented instruction is offered in language arts and math classes.
